Requirements?
Here's what you can do with a W&H visa... And an important fact: you can only apply for this visa once in your lifetime. So make the most of it, make sure you apply for your visa the right way with us, and don't let this opportunity pass ♡.
What can I do with my
W&H visa?
-
and extend it for a second (and even a third) year if you work for at least 3 months (88 days) in areas such as tourism, hospitality, agriculture, forestry, or fishing in a specific regional area.
UK passport holders can be granted a second Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa without having to meet the 3-month specific work requirement. -
You can enter the country up to 12 months later after your visa is granted. And from the moment you set foot in Australia, the 12 months of your visa begin to count down.
-
This gives you time to settle down, save money, and gain experience (then you can continue working with another employer).
-
If you demonstrate your skills and commitment, you can be sponsored by an Australian company. Many people start with a W&H visa and then obtain a work visa that allows them to stay indefinitely and call Australia their home.
-
If you want to take advantage of the opportunity to take a short course or improve your English.
-
As many times as you wish as long your visa is valid.
Why a
Work & Holiday
and not a student visa?
-
A student visa may sound appealing at first, but it comes with commitments that many only discover once they are already in Australia. It requires a much greater investment, as you have to pay for expensive courses (many of which are highly questionable “visa-grabber” courses), tuition, materials, medical insurance, and, in many cases, renew every few months.
In addition, it ties you to a fixed class schedule and limits your working hours to only 24 per week. -
You are not required to study, you can work legally full-time (up to 6 months per employer), and you can move around the country without restrictions.
The cost is much lower (the W&H visa costs AUD 670 compared to AUD 2,000 for a student visa) and the experience is more authentic: you live like a local, work, make friends, and discover Australia at your own pace. -
It is the most flexible, accessible, and authentic way to take that first big step in Australia.
Frequently ask
questions
-
Yes, it is possible, but with conditions. Immigration wants you to avoid working in the same location for more than six months. Therefore, you can continue working for the same company as long as you change locations and the company notifies Immigration and requests permission. In the specific case of working as an au pair, you can stay longer with the same family, as long as Immigration gives you permission.
-
Yes, it is possible to use a family member's bank account show proof of funds (remember that immigration requires proof of AUD 5,000 plus money for a return flight). However, you must prove your relationship with official documents, such as a family register or birth certificate, so that the immigration authorities can validate it correctly. -
Yes, you can stay in Australia for more than a year if you extend your W&H visa for a second, and even a third year, by meeting the requirements for working in specific regional areas, or if your employer sponsors you. -
